WASHINGTON — The National Domestic Workers Alliance (NDWA) praised the Congressional Progressive Caucus (CPC) for publicly releasing a slate of Executive Orders this morning that President Biden can use to deliver much-needed investments and relief to working families.
Below is a statement from the National Domestic Workers Alliance:
Two years into the pandemic, the essential care workers who saw the nation through uncertain moments, allowed families to get back to work, and kept our economy moving are still among the most underpaid and unprotected workers on the job today. Care workers are vital to our economic recovery, and it’s time to take immediate action to ensure the care sector – disproportionately Black, Latinx, Asian, and Indigenous women, and immigrant women who are often excluded from workplace protections – are extended basic protections that provide the dignity, respect, and recognition that everyone deserves.
In recent months, the domestic worker movement has been critical in pushing lawmakers to make a once-in-a-generation investment in care infrastructure this year. However, as Congress continues to negotiate, there is still an urgent need to provide relief, protections, and benefits to workers right now. We applaud the Congressional Progressive Caucus for proposing this Executive Action Agenda, and we are proud to stand with them in urging President Joe Biden to use the power he alone has to strengthen and broaden outdated overtime protections, provide fair wages to millions of workers, and extend new protections to immigrant workers – including sick leave and overtime – to ensure that all workers, regardless of who they are or where they come from, can go to work knowing that they will be treated fairly.
The CPC recognizes the urgent need for action here today. In the weeks ahead, we look forward to continuing to work with them to ensure Congress passes permanent protections and investments to lift the workers who are at the heart of our economy, which will lead to just economic inclusion for all.
